Neue Informations– und Kommunikationstechniken bringen bisher nicht da gewesene Möglichkeiten für die umfassende Information und Partizipation weiter Bevölkerungsteile mit sich. … Das #UseTheNews-Projekt arbeitet daher heraus, wie die Nachrichtenkompetenz von Jugendlichen und jungen Erwachsenen möglichst umfassend erforscht und gefördert werden kann. … Trotz eines eher zufälligen Kontakts mit Nachrichten in den Sozialen Medien nutzen Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene auch weiterhin traditionelle Nachrichtenmedien, um sich ein breites Wissensspektrum anzueignen. Daher lautet das Fazit der Studie: Um die Nachrichtenkompetenz jüngerer Generationen zu fördern, gilt es, die Rolle des seriösen Journalismus zu stärken und Bildungsinstitutionen in die Vermittlung der Alltagsrelevanz nachrichtlicher Informationen einzubinden.“
